§ 5.02.020. Definitions.

  • For the purpose of this Title 5, certain words and phrases are defined and certain words and phrases shall be construed as set forth in this Section 5.02.020, unless it is apparent from their context that a different meaning is intended or unless they or any other terms are specifically defined in one (1) or more of the Chapters of this Title, in which case the Chapter definitions shall be controlling in such Chapters.

    A.

    "Applicant" means any person who applies for a business license or permit.

    B.

    "Business" means each and every business, commercial or industrial enterprise, trade, profession, occupation, vocation, calling or any means of livelihood, whether or not carried on for gain or profit.

    C.

    "Business license" means a license issued pursuant to Chapter 3.80 evidencing the payment of a business license tax for the carrying on of a business in the City of Long Beach.

    D.

    "Business permit" or "permit" means a permit, if required, issued pursuant to this Title 5 evidencing compliance by a licensed business in the City of Long Beach with the regulatory provisions of this Title 5.

    E.

    "Permit identification card" means a card, if required, issued pursuant to this Title 5, evidencing the issuance to a permittee of a valid permit and setting forth information as may be required pursuant to the provisions of this Title 5.

    F.

    "Person" means any domestic or foreign corporation, firm, association, syndicate, joint stock company, partnership of any kind, joint venture, club, business or common law trust, society, individual, estate, receiver, retirement plan, trustee, or any other group or combination acting as a unit.
